Stomp Them One Week, Shit Kicked the Next
The
Social Misfits have played 2-games since the last update, winning one and losing the other. In the first game they pounded out a 16-3 victory over the Master Batters before the Batters elected to pack up their bags and go home, proclaiming that they were too far back to catch up. Too many offensive highlights to feature, and very few low lites.

Game 2 saw the Misfits completely get their asses handed to them as they dropped a 29-11 game to the powerful No Bigs team. Nothing went right from the opening fly ball to the last at bat. Offensively Reggie collected 4 hits and Jackie Bolack cranked out a triple. Luber was also 3-3. Defensively, well, it wasn't pretty and the pitching staff surrendered a total of 9 home runs in the encounter.

Misfits in a Rout
The Social Misfits raised their regular season record to 4-2, as they knocked off Val's Pals 23-10 in softball action in Brandon on Tuesday night.

Craig picked up the win tossing 4 innings, while Earl earned the save pitching the final 3. Offensively Craig, Scott, and Shawn were all 5/5 on the evening. Shawn and Stephen both hit home runs in the game. Craig, Scott, and Carla each managed to score 4 times in the contest.

Defensively the team found themselves short staffed (6 males, 5 females) for much of the muggy evening. Shelley Cords was a monster performer in the field for her catch in right to start the game and then at rover to end it. Honorable mention goes out to Shawn with a great shoe string catch in center and Nikkis diving attempt on a bloop shot to right.

Notes: Bruce Luebke was AWOL on this night and the team is looking at fining him for conduct detrimental to the team.. Rumor has it that Tim Riddell missed on the game for Val's Pals as he had the "Misfit Flu". Next action sees the Misfits playing once again at 9:00 on diamond #2 next this coming Tuesday evening. Reggie Leclerc returns to the lineup after taking a week off for a family vacation.

Why Other Teams Don't Like it When Earl Umps

Misfits Drop Another, Fall to 3-2
On a night when the bats went cold and the gloves were non existent, the Misfits dropped a 15-8 decision to Benny & the Jets in softball action. Reggie took to the mound and looked strong as he staked the Misfits to an early 3-0 lead after 3 complete, but then the wheels feel off as they surrendered 15 runs over the final 3 innings of play.

Offensively the charge was lead by Craig was 3/3 and Kevin (2/4) who belted the longest home run to date of this young season. Others collecting 2 hits included Nikki, Scott, Jody and Shelly S. Scott also went yard with an impressive shot over the deepest part of the ball field in center field.

"I think that the best part of the evening may have just been the conversation that followed the game at Appleebee's" said a disgruntled Bruce Luebke. "It's a game we could have and should have won, however they just seemed to want it more, and in the end they worked harder for it" finished Luebke.

Notes: Check out the Brandon Sun in coming weeks as longtime Wheat City Journal reporter and Misfit player takes his weekly article from one publication to another. A scary moment in the bottoms of the 6th inning as Misfit CF Kevin Phillip went running 3/4 speed into the outfield fence in an attempt to track down a deep fly ball. Next action is a night games that sees the Misfits play host to the Hurls' Food mart Hurlers in an evening game under the lights.

Triple Play: Leclerc, Williams & Crystal
Spectators who took in the June 20th softball game against the Rally Cats received an unexpected treat when leading Hollywood actors Billy Crystal and Robin Williams stopped by to check out the action. The duo, who admit to following the Misfits via the Internet, were most looking forward to meeting Misfit Reggie Leclerc, who has been on a major tear to start the season. "In looking at the web site and following the stats, Reggie's numbers really jumped out at us, and we wanted to meet this softball legend before he retires" said Billy following the game.

Reggie was surprised to hear that news of his home run traveled all the way to Hollywood, and he said that both Williams and Crystal indicated that they one day may make a movie about Reggie's softball career. "They asked if I would be available as a technical contact to show them the in's and out's of softball" Reggie said. "As discussions between the different parties intensified, I invited them back to my crib, so that we could further discuss details of the movie on the best sectional in Carberry" he finished.

What People are Really Thinking When They Hit into a Sellars

Misfits Rally Early, Hold On for Victory
The Misfits scored 6 runs in their half of the first inning and then managed to hold on to earn a close 11-9 ball game. Jody took to the mound for the start and using pinpoint accuracy and a lively knuckle ball limited the Rally Cats to 3 runs in his 4 innings or work. Craig came on in relief, and despite some shaky defense behind him, managed to earn his first save of the young season. Catch of the night came from newcomer Nikki as she made a shoe string catch to extinguish a Rally Cats rally with two runners on and 2 out to end the 6th inning. At the time the Misfits lead by only the two runs.

Offensively the charge was lead by Kevin, Reggie, Craig and Jody who were all 3/3 on the evening. Shawn belted out his 2nd home run of the season with a solo blast in the third while Scott, Carla, Shawn and Earl each chipped in with 2 hits a piece.. While Reg and Earl continued their torrid hitting pace, veteran utility player, Earl Cheasley felt like the team left way too many runners on base. "I think we could have scored at least 5-6 more runs had we cashed in when we had our opportunities" said Earl. "Hopefully next week the bats will come alive with runners in scoring position" he added.

Notes: Retired OF Al Sellars made a surprise appearance at the game to cheer on his former mates and was lucky enough to take home the nights 50/50 draw. Stephen Stanley may have just earned himself a permanent position at short stop with his play as of late. Next weeks sees the Misfits tackle the powerful Benny & the Jets.

Misfits Open Season with Back to Back Wins
The Social Misfits opened the 2007 softball season by winning their opening 2-games. In the first encounter the Misfits dispatched of the Dodgers by a score of 14-8. Reg, & Shawn were both 4/4 at the plate, white Scott and Kevin were each 3/3 on the evening. Scott and Kevin both belted tape measure home runs at crucial points in the game.

Game 2 saw the Misfits claw their way back from a 10-7 deficit to eventually topple the Wanderers 12-10, in extra innings. Reg Leclerc got the start on the mound and struggled with control and was pulled after 3 innings. Craig came in relief and pitched the final 5 innings, including the extra inning, in earning the victory. Offensively Reg surprised everyone by hitting his first home run as a Misfit. Shawn also smacked his first home run of the young season. Craig had the winning hit as he doubled home Earl and Jackie in the top ½ of the 8th inning.

Show Me the Money
Social Misfits Executive today announced at the Summer Meetings that the Misfits and outfielder Kevin Phillip have agreed on a contract for the 2007 season with an option for 2008. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"He fits real well in our lineup among Bolack, Leclerc and Gurr," Misfits field manager Bruce Luebke said. "Considering the production he has shown in his career, it's a significant acquisition for us. He plays the game with a lot of passion and heart -- he's not afraid to stick his nose in there. Defensively, he's a plus in how hard he plays the game."

Misfits Executive Vice President and General Manager Jody Sass on today's announcement- "The addition of Kevin Phillip not only gives our club another quality outfielder who excels against right-handed pitching, but it gives our team another veteran presence with championship experience and adds to the overall depth of our organization."

To make room for Phillip (who will wear #33) on the 14--man roster the Misfits have purchased out the contract of outfielder Al Sellars, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Dancing With the Stars: Westman Edition
Craig Richardson is the latest Misfit to join the list of players who have been featured of television realty shows, as he has signed on to join the cast of Dancing With the Stars, Westman Edition. Craig, who admits to being both excited and nervous about his upcoming fancy foot work claims that it has been a while since his shoes have hit a dance floor. "The last time I think I actually danced was at my wedding, and that was only because I had to" said Craig. "With this opportunity I am excited to show people my vastly improved foot speed and manual dexterity." he continued, over a plate of chicken fingers and fries at a local watering hole.

Rumored, but not yet confirmed to be appearing with Craig on the latest edition include local hockey/entertainment promoter Daryl 'Beef' Wolski, former Wheat King great Mark Shefchyk, a current member of the BU bobcats women's basketball team, Wheat Kings 50/50 ticket seller Mark Shanks, and an unnamed member of the Brandon Cloverleafs baseball club.

Protein Shakes Equal Good & Bad
The Social Misfits are pleased to announce that OF Nikki Zorzos has reached a 2-year sponsorship agreement with the manufacturer of a leading protein shake company. The deal provides the manufacturer with the ability to use Nikki's name and likeness on their marketing materials, while Nikki receives a small cash disbursement and free supplements. "I am very surprised at how quickly the deal was put together" said Niiki during the press conference at Applebee's restaurant. "When I first started playing with the Misfits I thought that I would simply get to play some games and have another night out of ball, but playing for them has opened the door to a lot more" . Since I have joined the Misfits I have received inquiries from teams overseas about next season, and now this sponsorship deal is overwhelming" she continued

Nikki, who has been taking the protein shakes for several months now, is using the shakes to increase strength, but no necessarily mass. "Since I have been taking the shakes, I have noticed improved levels of strength as well as energy" she said. However, for everything that is positive about her experience with these protein shakes, she has also noticed one drawback that comes with taking them. "Trust me, if I fart, you guys will definately know" she joked as the night wrapped up.

Planet Kia Cruise by Misfits
In what can only be called the poorest outing in 2 seasons, the Social Misfits dropped a 14-6 decision to Planet Kia in softball action in Brandon, Manitoba. Interestingly enough the Misfits actually led 3-2 after 4 complete innings before the wheels feel off. At one point late in the game after a routine fly ball was dropped, one fan in attendance could be heard saying "My daughter, would have had that one".

"We couldn't hit a ball, nor catch a ball tonight" said a player who did not wish to be identified. Offensively the team struggled at the dish all night as the only players to record multiple hits were Reggie, Earl, and Nikki.

"It was one of those games, we are going to have to forget about and come back to the ball park next week with our game faces on and be ready to bang" said Earl. "We had a pretty successful year last year, and never got beat up like this once, so we will have to see what the character is of this team is next week" he concluded.

Next week the Misfits play host to the Rally Cats. Reggie Leclerc is expected to get the start on the mound.

New Uniforms
The Social Misfits will begin a new chapter in franchise history, when the team dons their second uniform in a game for the first time. The unique look incorporates sport gray as the primary color, with royal blue lettering, and in lieu of the traditional "Scary Dog" across the front of the jersey, the club has added "Bear Biting Bat" logo emblazoned in the same royal blue.

"We are excited about the debut of our new second uniform, and believe our fans will like the design, color scheme and look that identifies the team on the front of the jersey," said Misfits Director of Marketing, Carla Richardson. "In this new era of Social Misfits softball, this is one example of our renewed commitment to reconnect with the Misfits fans with the Brandon community that we are proud to be a part of."

The new uniforms, which are produced by Reebok, are going to be unveiled on Tuesday, June 19, before the Misfits take on Planet Kia at Curran Park. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m., with gates opening at 6:30.

Kids 12-and-under can receive a free replica uniform by attending the Misfits July 17th game against Val's Pals.

Alumni Game
N
ever before have the Social Misfits hosted an alumni baseball game.

This year, co-coach and field manager Bruce Luebke thought it would be good to bring back the alumni to meet the new baseball team and to play in a friendly game.

"I thought it was a good idea to bring everybody back, so I sent out a letter and we've had an unbelievable response to it," Luebke said.

Some of the players who have responded and who are playing in the alumni game are Dean Johnson, a former utility player, and Mike Gillespie, who now plays for Dirty Sanchez. Gillespie just won the Brandon Mixed Softball Leage's League Batting Crown with a .656 batting average.

Cam Moir and Stacey Popien, players from the original team, will also be coming back to play in the game.

Another ex-player who may be suiting up to play in the game is former right fielder Al Sellars.

Sellars who still holds the single season error record with 37 errors in only 14 games, is looking forward to the event. "I will definitely be looking forward to seeing some of my old teammates," said Sellars.

There is more to this weekend than just having fun at the alumni game. Luebke said it is a good way for the alumni to see where the program is going and get involved with Misfit softball again.

After the game the Misfits will have a barbecue for them and their families, and a golf tournament has been scheduled for the following morning.
