Kournikova to Throw out Opening Pitch
Former tennis great Anna Kournikova has agreed to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the July 25th Social Misfit softball game in Brandon Manitoba. Kournikova said that her fascination with the Misfits started online when a friend recommended the web site, but her interest was peaked after watching videotape of the team in action. "The team is littered with talent from top to bottom, and their aggressive style of play reminds me of what I played like back when I used to be active on the tennis circuit" said Anna.

Kournikova played little league softball and has always had a great passion for the sport. She considers herself a big league fan, flattered for this invitation to participate in the Misfits pre game festivities. "I've got a strong arm, the catcher better be ready," stated Kournikova.

" You Can Become A Better Athlete - And Baseball Player - With A Few Simple 'Warm-Up' Drills!" A new DVD by Stephen Stanley
Are
you looking for a more effective, time-efficient method of warming-up than a lap around the field and static stretching?

Did you know that static stretching before practice can actually INCREASE injury and DECREASE performance? Yeah I know, that's the absolutely last thing you are trying to accomplish.

Not only will your players be loose and ready to go before you bat an eye, they will become better athletes through special baseball-specific techniques that increase range of motion and strength throughout the entire body.

No more wasting 30 minutes doing useless static stretching drills that are actually dangerous. That's right, static stretching done before practice can actually increase chance of injury. However, special forms of dynamic warm-up, like those shown in The Ultimate 7-Minute Baseball Warm-up, increase speed, strength, power and flexibility in no time flat.

Hear what others are saying:

"As a co-ed softball field manager, I needed to maximize practice time. Before I knew it practice was half over and we hadn't even finished our "warm-up" yet. Once I starting using the Ultimate 7 Minute Dynamic Warm-Up by Stephen Stanley my players were having a lot more fun and becoming better athletes. Another great things is they never act like are bored! I used it with Jody, who runs like he has a piano tied to his ass, and his 60 time dropped .4 of a second in just under a month! I am very impressed with your product and highly recommend it to anyone looking to become a better baseball player."

Player Profile: Reggie Leclerc

Player: Reggie Leclerc Position: OF, C, P

Comments: Quality player who hustles and plays the game hard. Has tremendous speed which makes him dangerous on the base paths and reliable in the outfield. Defensively he covers a lot of ground, closing the gaps and chasing downs balls at the wall. Has a decent arm. Offensively he has little power, but is getting better at learning his strengths--hitting to all fields and using his speed. Known to his teammates as "Wild Thing".

Most noted for sliding at home with the team already up 11-0.

Batting Tips from Survivor's Shane
Christmas came early this season for Social Misfits outfielder Shawn Bolack as he was the recipient of several text messages from the Woodberry of Survivor castaway Shane. "Shane has been sending myself many text messages with basic batting advice and hints for the upcoming ball season" said Shawn, who last year lead the team with 8-doubles. "At first I thought it was kind of a joke, but once I realized that these messages were real, I got quite excited" he added.

Followers of the popular CBS reality television show have been mystified for weeks as to just who it was that Shane was texting, with his piece of driftwood that he was calling his Blackberry. That mystery has now been solved. "I guess that he had some free time while on the Island and being a fan of the game of softball, he decided to lend a hand and pass me along some of his tips" Shawn stated. "The best advice he has passed on to me was to always swing at the first pitch, as it is usually the best offering" he concluded.

Gurr Added As Luebke Fine Tunes Misfits Roster
Misfits manager Bruce Luebke added another player to his 2006 roster today, exactly 6 weeks away from the start of the regular season.

Lubeke announced today the signing of utility man Scott Gurr, who last played ball in 2004 with the Clanwilliam Greys in the now defunct Brandon Commercial Men's Fastball League, and has spent the past year on the DL rehabilitating an injured throwing arm.

Luebke now has 15 players under contract for the 2006 season. Training camp opens at FasGas Park on Tuesday May 16/2006..

Gurr's signing was one of several Misfits announcements today. Shane, an outfielder drafted last month at the Brandon Co-Ed softball leagues open tryout in Forrest, was signed as was Stephen Stanley & his girlfriend Shelley. Also inked to deals were Chuck Vandaele and his girlfriend Kim.

Teresa Canart is expected to miss the first 5-weeks of the season, as she was placed on the IR, with what team doctors are describing as "an upper body injury". Jackie Bolack was placed on the DL list, as she takes a year off to have her first child with husband Shawn. Jackie is expected to take over the scorekeepers role for the upcoming season. Mike Gillespies status with the team remains in limbo and he decides his future.

Visitors
The Social Misfits web site continues to grow in leaps and bounds, attracting a record number of viewers the past several months. While most of the traffic is being generated by friends and family, visitors from all over the world have utilized search engines to find the site.

Shelley Cords: Answer to a Trivia Question
Shelley Cords is now the answer to a trivia question on the popular TV game show, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. During an episode last week, a question was asked regarding which player on the Misfits would most likely run a catcher and to no-ones surprise Shelley was the correct answer.

"At first I was surprised to see my name on the screen like that" said Shelley. "I had no idea it was coming" she continued. While Shelley was surprised her teammates certainly weren't. "The image of Shelley charging home and running the catcher in the 4th game of the season is one of the hi-lites for me to date" said Reggie LecClerc. "The fact that she took it upon herself to run a catcher with us already up 22-3 in a game later in the year just proves that she listened to speech at the start of the year about always giving 110% on every played" added Reggie.

The collision, while violent in appearance, isn't something Shelley plans on stopping anytime soon. "Next time I see a catcher blocking the plate, I won't think twice. I will simply lower my shoulder and bowl them over if it means the difference between scoring a run out not." concluded Shelley

Team Glossary:

Book Ends: Two larger players (Jody & Earl) who once occupied the corners defensively for the Misfits.

Jesus Christ Cam: Used when ever someone makes an error on a routine fielding play. Used frequently.

Keith's Gym Bag: A Sobeys shopping bag, turned inside out, and used to transport one's baseball equipment.

Right There, Right There, Right There: Used on every pop fly when we are in the outfield. Used to direct your fielder towards the ball. Al once used it when helping Shawn track a fly ball, only to see the ball land approximately 32 feet from where Shawn was told to stop. That is how it all started.

Stop, drop & roll: Earl fielding when playing the infield.

Wiggle, Wiggle It: Opposition taunts Shawn Bolack with this call, as he swaggers his hips in the batters box.

Red Bandana: Charlottle.

Wild Thing: Who the team would call for to take the mound, once they were either up or down by at least 21 runs. He is lo-longer on the team, but the legend lives on.

Hit into a Sellars: Base runner on first, batter hits to short, fielder throws to 2nd throwing out the base runner, and the batter is safe at first.

I know what I am doing, I'm going run it in: Instead of throwing the ball in from the outfield, the left fielder instead elects to run it in thinking that he can get the ball in faster and safer that way.

Hit the shit out of it: Used to describe any hit that does not leave the infield.

Earl: Not Impressed
Earl Cheasley remains miffed with Al Sellars after an incident recently where Al was looking after Earl's dog Echo. "I was heading out of town for a few days and I needed someone to check in on Echo while I was away" said Earl. "Seeing as how I had baby sat Brett when he was a youngster, I asked Al if he would return the favor and look after Echo for a few days" he continued. While Al was nice enough to look after Echo, Earl was not happy when he returned home to find Al and Echo having a party. " I was more then a little concerned when I walked in and witnessed what I did" said an visibly shaken Cheasley. "All I could do was stand there in total disbelief and take this picture with my cell phone" he concluded.

For his part, Al felt that he did nothing wrong and wasn't sorry about the festivities that evening. "I just did what any 40-something male would do when left alone, and looking for a party" he said. Echo declined to comment.

Keith Taps Out
Keith Richardson once again has injured his ankle, this time at a MMA training session. While it is no secret that it is one of Keith life long ambitions to become a cast member of the Ultimate Fighter 3, it is also no secret that he has fragile ankles. Recently during a sparring session with fellow Misfit, Bruce Luebke, Bruce caught Keith in an ankle lock severely damaging the ligaments in Keith ankle.

"I'm not sure what happened," said a confused Luebke. " I went to apply a simple ankle lock and before I could apply any pressure Keith was tapping like a little girl" continued Bruce. "I never heard anything pop or break" added Bruce who went on to say that all he could was Keith squealing in pain.

Keith for his part was upset with Mr. Luebke claiming that Bruce took advantage of him knowing that he has bad ankles in the past. "It's not over between us that's for sure" said an emotional Keith. "He may have won this battle but the war is far from over" he went on.

Sellars on a Tear
Al Sellars has been swinging a powerful bat of late. As of press time he had 13 hits and was on top of his game at the plate. "For the last few weeks I have been seeing the ball really well," said Al. "I seem to have hit my groove late in the season and have been stroking out single after single" continued Al.

"Al has been ripping the cover off the ball lately," said Shawn Bolack. "You can see the fear in the opposition eyes when he steps to the plate" added Shawn.

Al, who at times has found himself hitting in the number 2 spot in the lineup hope to continue his torrid hitting streak. "For awhile there I was in abit of a slump, but in the last few weeks, I can feel my stregth returning with every at bat" concluded Al.
