1.         Call to Order

Don Sutherland assumed the Chair and called the meeting to order at 1914h.

 

2.            Agenda

None.  We left it all in President Don=s capable hands!

 

3.         Minutes

a)         Regular Meeting of 08 September 2008

MOTION (Dave F. / Mark T.): That the minutes of the regular meeting of 08 September 2008 be accepted as circulated by e-mail.                          CARRIED

 

4.         Old Business

a)         Melon Dive

-           held at Glen Beag, RMNP, on 27 September 2008

-           Calm, clear blue skies, air temperature of 13C, water temperature of 9C

-           Four divers registered for the event and organized themselves into two teams: Team #1: Linda & Don Sutherland;  Team #2:  Mark Chapman & Mark Tokle

-           The buoys, the float line, and the wharf were then removed from the lake

-           the pot luck supper was held at Linda & Ed Burridge’s cottage, however, the hosts were forced to contribute additional quantities of food and grog for the seemingly insatiable appetite of their 11 guests

-           First Prize: Mark Tokle ($25 credit at C&L Scuba); Second Prize: Mark Chapman ($15 credit at C&L Scuba); Third Prize: Kim & Don Sutherland ($10 credit at C&L Scuba)

b)         Christmas Party 2008

-           held at the Riesmeyer home, Waggle Springs Road, on 22 November 2008

-           Approximately 30 persons attended the event

-           Pictures may have been taken during the event, but none were available

 

5.         Reports

a)         Treasurers Report

-           Various materials have been recovered from the outgoing Treasurer

-           No financial report is available, indeed, since 2006 there has been little progress in clarifying the financial situation of the Club

-           The current balance in our account at Westoba would appear to be $976.36


6.         Upcoming Events

a)         Bowling Party

-           Tentatively scheduled for 28 February 2009

-           Kellie Burnett and Mark Addison will contact Huggy’s to confirm a reservation for several lanes

-           Members are encouraged to bring flash drives and/or CD-DVD with dive videos or underwater photos of their recent trips

b)         Activating the Dive Site 2009

-           Tentatively scheduled for 23 May 2009

-           Buoys will be installed

-           Water feels darn cold at this time of the year, and only recommended for the foolhardy and/or dry suits

-           Linda & Ed Burridge have volunteered their cottage for a pot luck supper afterwards

c)         BSC "National Parks Day" 2009

-           Diving event tentatively scheduled for 18 July 2009

-           could also include a scavenger hunt for the landlubbers and/or divers

d)         Dauphin Divers "Diving in the Ducks" 2009

-           Tentatively scheduled for 08-09 August 2009

-           will be the 45th Annual spear fishing event

e)         Promotion / Awareness

-           BSC membership fees remain at $20 single, $25 family.  Non-current members and guests will be charged a fee when they attend Club activities.

-           difficulty in finding volunteers to properly staff a booth at either the Shoppers Mall or during a Keystone Centre event (e.g. the Lifestyles Expo)

-           Regent Custom Cresting has the BSC logo in its files, and members can have their clothing done at any time.  Remember to bring your receipt into a Regular Meeting and the Club will refund $7.50 @ member ($15.00 @ family).

-           members attending this meeting, and subsequent BSC meetings throughout the 2008/2009 season, will have their name put into a draw for Club-crested clothing valued at approx. $50 at the next AGM

-           Mark Tokle suggested the Club host a car wash, with members dressed in Speedo swim suits; Dave Ford suggested that wet suits might be more suitable

 

7.         Election of Officers

a)         Executive

MOTION (Dan / Norma): That the following members of the Brandon Scuba Club have allowed their names to stand in nomination for various Executive positions:

And the above slate of Officers be accepted to operate the Club until the next

Annual General Meeting.                                                                                                                                                   CARRIED


b)         Signing Authority

MOTION (Kathryn H. / Kim Sutherland): Effective immediately, Mark Tokle and Ed Burridge shall be the two signing officers for the Brandon Scuba Club and, effective immediately, the names of Don Sutherland and Troy Elliott shall be

removed as signing officers for the Brandon Scuba Club.                              CARRIED

 

8.         Next Meeting

a)         Regular Meeting

-           Tuesday, 24 March 2009, 7pm, Room 137, Health Studies Complex, BU

b)         Newsletter

-           Tentatively scheduled for mid-April 2009

-           Club members are encouraged to take pictures and write articles about their diving trips, and submit them to the Editor

 

9.         Adjournment

a)         Mark Tokle commented on his appreciation for the work of Don and Kim Sutherland over the past year, in order to salvage the Club from its spate of Executive resignations during 2007.  A rousing round of applause ensued.

b)         MOTION (Norma / Linda B.): That this meeting of the Brandon Scuba Club stands adjourned (2040h).                                                                                             CARRIED
