Q
. Can 26th south of Parkdale be made into 4 lane? (Apr 08)
Response from Development Services: While traffic volumes have increased along Maryland Avenue from 18th Street to 26th Street and along this section of
26th street, the traffic volumes do not warrant construction of four lanes. We will arrange for a traffic count to be made in the area
later this fall to further assess the appropriate street profile needed when we reconstruct this portion of 26th street.
Our projected reconstruction is 2012, however, the ability to meet that schedule is totally dependent on funding and project
priorities between now and 2012.
Besides the present condition and traffic volumes on 26th street, there are also engineering considerations such as the
future extension of 26th street south to Patricia Avenue and the limited amount of right-of-way for Maryland Avenue which will dictate
the amount of improvements warranted for 26th street.
Q
. Work was being done within the Wedgewood circle and a
fairly large portion of the road, and the land alongside has not been completely filled in yet. Is the city planning
on getting this fixed before too much snow flies? (Nov 07)
Response from Operations:
Due to the late work on this project, we will not be able to complete all the repairs until the spring of
next year. In the mean time we will fill up the holes along the curb in order to make it safe and will
level off the street. The asphalt plant is closed for the season, so this will be the best we can
do. We will try to get to first thing in the spring. (Nov 07)
Q
. Can we erect larger street sings, particularly in downtown
regions, to make navigation easier (Oct 07)?
Response from Operations:
The current process for street signage within our community consists of using the standard street signs on all residential
streets and having larger directional signs placed overhead, adjacent the traffic signal light. On Rosser Avenue and
Princess Avenue, extending from 1st Street to 18th Street, the practice has been to establish a larger street sign
that is decorated with the Wheat Sheave on the sides of each intersection, not on the overhead traffic signal. These signs
are larger than a typical neighborhood street sign and the size, complimented with the decorative appearance, seem to be
very visible when traveling these particular streets. The cost to install larger signs overhead, adjacent to the
traffic signal lights on Rosser Avenue and Princess Avenue would be $900.00 per intersection on 12 intersections
for a total cost of $10,800.00.
To replace the standard street signs on residential streets to a size comparable to the ones on Rosser Avenue and
Princess Avenue, without the decorative component, would cost approximately $75.00 for each sign. We estimate that
there is between 3,000 and 4000 street signs throughout our community with a total cost of
approximately $200,000 - $300,000.00.
At this time we have not included any additional funds in our 2008/2009 budget to allow for changes in the size of
street signs as our office has not received any feedback from visitors with regards to the need for larger signage. The
area that we have experienced an increase in complaints is with the obstruction of street signage resulting from the
overgrowth of trees. We have requested additional funds in our tree maintenance budget for 2008 to increase our
resources to improve on this maintenance. (Oct 07)
Q
. Can we raise the drain on 26th (at 1204), it has sunk a foot? (Oct 07)
I have requested operations to look at
this. (Oct 07)
Q
. Is the City thinking about changing
Rosser and Princess to 2-way? (Oct 07)
I have requested information from
administration. (Oct 07)
Q
. At Linden and Richmond, could we get a u-turn put in for
people going South? (Oct 07)
A.
Response from Development Services: We will look at this in the spring of 2008. (oct 07)
Q
. The grass in front of my house was dug up to allow hookup of water and sewer for the
new development across the street (29 Parkdale). Do we have a timeline on when it will be replanted?
A. Response from Development Services:
The work you identified is the responsibility of the developer across the street resulting from the sewer and water
installation that they required . We have served notice to their engineer of the need to put the repair area in a
safe condition. Final restoration will not be completed until spring 2008 now that winter weather has arrived. (Dec 07)
Q
. People are speeding down Parkdale and also Durum?
A. I have asked
COPP (Citizens on Patrol Program) to do some speed testing at these locations.
Response from COPP: The request has been sent
to the "Speed Watch" Co-ordinator to see when it can be done.
A. Response from Police: On 2007-11-01
the Traffic Section set up radar in this area. No violators were apprehended and the highest speed was 48 km/hr. The Speed
Spy was not utilized as it was being used at another location. Police will continue to monitor this area, time permitting. (Nov 07)
