Flooding/Drainage

Q. Ashgrove keeps getting flooded during heavy rainfalls (Sept 06)

A. I have had numerous discussions with engineering in regards to this issue. It does not appear to be a capacity issue but more of a blockage problem. In heavy rains, leaves and debris are carried down the street and cover the grating (entrance to drainage system). This happens in 2 places: where the backlane intersects with poplar (between Ashgrove and 26th) as well as midway down Ashgrove. (Oct 06)

I brought this up at the 2007 Budget deliberations in January of 2007 and will continue to pursue a resolution to this problem. (Jan 07)

Q. Parkdale - flooding from 2005 and some in 2006. Street does not allow for proper drainage. (Sept 06)

A. I had discussions with engineering in 2006 about this issue and brought it up during the 2007 budget deliberations. The reason I was given by engineering for the flooding was that the road is crowned and during heavy rainfalls the water can not get from one side to the other to get into the drainage system. To correct the problem the road would have to be completely rebuilt or drainage inlets would have to be added at numerous points along the opposite side. (Oct 06)

I will continue to discuss this with engineering in the future. (Jan 07)
