Flooding/Drainage

Q. Ditch behind Fife has been removed and the water is now running into our backyards. (Mar 07)

A. Response from Development Services: The developer has been advised that we will not be issuing a building permit for the lot directly behind 20 Fife Bay until a drainage solution is proposed. I drove by the area today and see that the developer has plowed snow off the vacant lot and pushed it toward the east and the north as the resident of Fife stated. I will have staff send notice to the developer that this snow needs to be removed before spring so there is no snow melt issue for the Fife resident. (Dec 07)

Q. Evergreen Flooding. (Aug 06)

A. The intersection of Evergreen has been flooding for over 10 years now. In July of 2005, the rains caused a substantial amount of damage to the houses in this area. I brought this issue up to engineering in September and October of 2006 and also asked for a resolution during the 2007 budget deliberations. I have been promised that the problem will be identified during the 2007 calendar year and resolved in 2008. To view a letter I sent to residents discussing this issue please click on Evergreen Letter, March 2007. (Mar 07)

Following the rains on Monday, May 21st, I visited the area and noted the flooding that had taken place. City Administration has been notified and I will continue to follow up with them through the summer to ensure that a satisfactory resolution comes forward in 2008. (May 07)

After receiving an e-mail expressing frustration over flooding that has occurred this year from a resident in the area I forwarded a copy to the councilors, mayor and City Manager. I received a response from the city manager that this will be looked at as planned this year. (Jun 07)

As promised, the rebuilding of the drainage system from Willowdale to the CN tracks has been put into the 2008 draft budget. The total cost budgeted for has been increased from the initial estimate of $150,000 to $400,000. The entire budget will be debated by council on December 12th where this will item along with all the others will be discussed. I will update everyone whether this line items remains in the 2008 budget after our debate on December 12th. (Nov 07)

Q. The corner of Aberdeen and 34th appears to have a drainage problem. Two years ago the City promised to check the water flow from the ditches south of that corner. I was promised that the lack of drainage would be fixed last summer. (Jan 07)

A. Response from Development Services: We will look at in the spring and come back with a solution. (Feb 07)
