Q. Wasn't the original firehall on 13th and Richmond moved because the province would not allow direct access to a provincial road? If this is the case, then would we not have the same issue with a firehall on 18th and Princess? (Oct 07)

A. Response from Development Services: To the best of my knowledge there is no truth to this issue. I have recently spoke with local highways officials as well as the Director of Traffic Engineering for the Province regarding the proposed site at 18th & Princess, and there has never been any such indication that this would be true. Ultimately the City is the Traffic Authority for this area (as well as the former site on Richmond), and as such, has the authority to approve access points to 18th Street if required. As a matter of government relations, our office would ask for comments from the Province to ensure all interests are maintained, but the City would have the final authority.

Given our proposed design with egress to Princess Avenue and then connecting to 18th Street, the issue of emergency vehicles exiting directly onto 18th Street is not an issue. 18th Street will likely only be used for ingress purposes.

I believe the fire hall that once was located at 13th & Richmond was scheduled for renovations due to the age of the building as well as the arrival of new fire trucks that did not fit in this building. As a result, plans were reviewed for expansion and this site did not have adequate land available, therefore the City looked at the current location of 13th & Queens for current requirements and future growth.(Oct 07)

Q . Why are the fire-hydrants yellow rather than red? (Oct 07)

A. Response from Fire: When we went to yellow trucks years ago for visibility reasons, it was decided to also go to yellow hydrants. This is based only on anecdotal evidence, as there is no paper trail regarding the switch.

Q. What is the policy for parking campers on the street? (Sept 06)

A. Response from Bylaw: Campers are allowed to be on the street only if they are hitched to a vehicle at night. They can be parked for 48 hours without being moved. Offenders are reported on a complaint basis. If a complaint is lodged, by-law will mark the vehicle and then return in 48 hours. If the vehicle is not moved it will be ticketed. (Sept 06)

Q. Whose property is at the end of Willowdale? Why are people allowed to park there if it is City property? (Sept 06)

A. Response from Bylaw: This is city property. Since it is a dead end street and the vehicles are not blocking or interfering with traffic the city does not have any concerns with people parking there. (Sept 06)

Q. When is there going to be a new police station. Station is currently too small. (Sept 06)

A. Response fron Administration: The city is currently looking at building/buying a new station. There are currently no set timelines on when this will be happening. (Sept 06)

A new police station has been purchased on 10th and Victoria. The police will be moving in over the next few years. (May 07)

Q. Would like mail delivered to doorway (older individuals are in this development). (Sept 06)

A. Response from Canada Post: It was explained to me that Canada Post has a Corporate Delivery Policy in place. The policy outlines that since the condominium is on private property they must deliver to lock boxes or centralized mail boxes. This policy is standard across the country. (Sept 06)

Q. Garbage drivers will not get out of truck to move garbage container closer to curb – what is our policy. (Oct 06)

A. Response from Operations: It is their policy to get out of the truck and move the container if it is a one time occurrence. So for example, if the container is always accessible but on one day it is too far away, they are supposed to get out and move it. If they do not empty a garbage container, the driver is supposed to radio it in immediately. A supervisor is dispatched to see what the problem is and then either rectify the problem or notify the resident. A note should be dropped in your mailbox telling you why your container was not emptied. If they are not emptying your container and not leaving a reason why, please call public works and report it. They will send someone by to talk to you. (Oct 06)

Q. Can we paint the fire hydrant in Willow Place? (Sept 06)

A. Yes - Fire chief. (Sept 06)

Q. Meridian – can the cement be removed and grass or plants put in? This is in front of Linden Lanes school. City has been talking about it for 5 years. (Sept 06)

A. Response from Operations: We will look at this in the spring and get you a decision. (Oct 06)

Response from Operations: Due to safety concerns, the cement needs to be left in the meridian at this time.
