The New York Times cites a Manitoba expert in this article
explaining the pitfalls of relying on "Carbon Capture" projects
to reduce greenhosue gas emissions. Meanwhile our federal government

More evidence that Manitoba's promotion of ethanol is
counter-productive. It's another way of pretending to act on the
environment.

More evidence that governments need to lead (by that I mean regulate
and mandate) on the issue of energy efficiency etc.

More reasons why nuclear energy won't save us. It apparently uses a
lot of water and supplies are low in some areas already.

It appears that, when it comes right down to choices, neither consumers

Is Nuclear Energy a solution to Global Warming? Maybe not:

How about some good news? Manitoba should be paying attention to
B.C.'s plan to improve public transportation.

In Manitoba our government is again trying to up the speed limit on a
few highways. This is such a bad move, from both an environmental and
safety standpoint that it renders me almost speechless...I did say
almost! But the Canada Safety Council says it better than I could.

Good quote:
"We in the West want to impress the neighbours but we're
cheapskates. We shop at Wal-Mart and Costco, but we buy tank-sized
trucks for city driving..."
http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_mallick/20080114.html
We've hear stories from time to time about post-traumatic stress
syndrome, and violence-prone former soldiers. The New York Times
has gathered some comprehensive data and its is alarming. As Bob Dylan
once
said, "Who gonna take away his license to kill?" [1]
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/13/us/13vets.html?hp
Its hard to believe that many people, inluding most of our elected
represenatives, do not seem to understand the impications cost of
rampant drug advertsing on both our health and our health care
system.

This explains why gadgets are so annoying...

Another example in a long list. We just keep messing with nature,
then ignoring the potential harm until its a crisis

Actually a Highlight here - about the Latimer parole - made me
think. I'm no fan of Latimer but Karla Homolka served just 12 years.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_mallick/20071210.html
We'll likely spend a few years debating what should be no
brainer...drive-thru convenience is pouring tons pollutants into our
air. This is a good example of how we can cut pollutants
without a real cost to the economy. The fact that we haven't already
done it shows how we haven't even begun to get serious about
controlling emissions.
