May

We made trips to:  Hartney, Melita, Deloraine; Rivers; Wawanesa & Baldur to line up Heritage Inventory Projects.  Jonah took me to Chicken Delight for Mother's Day lunch. We took Mom Storie. Tim & Jerry joined us too. Geoff & Lyndsey came out for Mother's Day & treated Peggy & I  to supper at Double Happiness. We invited everyone  here for "coffee" after supper. We've enjoyed a few days with temps in mid 20's. Trees are in bud & blossom early, lilacs are early, very nice month until May long. Then lots of cool temps, wind & rain. Cynthia & Wayne in Portage & Geoff & Lyndsey at 423 in Wpg. had water in their basements, some areas rec'd as much as 100 mm of rain Sat. the 29th.

April

I accompanied Donna, Isaac, & Sophia to the Winter Fair. We had a family supper at Nick & Miranda's in Rivers on Apr 3rd. Unfortunately Goff & Lyndsey were missing.  I travelled to Regina alone to visit Dad & Nina (Easter Sun. to Wed.)   We had a party for Geoff's birthday here, he and Lyndsey were out for the weekend. On Jonah's birthday we went in to Winnipeg. A very early spring.  Lake Wpg. has open water already. Windy month, giant ice formation at Wpg. Beach due to high winds on Apr 2 (Good Fri) drew tourists.

March

We're finishing off projects in Virden and the Carberry area. Ken and Dave skied Panorama for four days. While we were away we missed Jerry's  three birthday parties. Mom was 86 this month.

February

We got good use out of the cross-country ski trail we started out back.

January

Geoff & Lyndsey had a holiday in Mexico - we went in to meet them at the airport and return the grandcats. Pearl, Scott, Betty-Lynn, Geordie, Linda and Ron came for supper on Jan. 2. On Jan 1 Donna had a retirement/birthday party for Dave.

December

Geoff & Lyndsey arrived about 1:30 Xmas Eve day. A nice surprise to have them arrive early & less worry about them travelling later in the  day in the snow storm. Picked up Jonah at 5 from work. We ordred Pizza Hut, visited, opened presents, played a game. A good time! Ken picked up Mom S at 7:45 Xmas a.m. so she could join us for breakfast before G&L left for Minnedosa to spend the day with L's family. We had a quiet day here. Went to Donna's for 5:30 for supper. Pam's & Paul's there except Iesha & Dave's Mom.  G, L, & her sister arrived at Donna's about 8. L & Brit attempted to drive to Wpg. but the road conditions were too bad & it was very windy. So we had an unexpected guest for the night.  L&B left about 10:30 Boxing day & made it home ok. L was supposed to work 9-5. G stayed to visit this friends. We took him home Sun, had lunch at Tony Roma's & brought Brit back to her home in.  Min-6 so a nice  day for Dec.

On Dec. 29 Dave, Jerry & Ken skied at Asessippi.

November

We made a trip to Winnipeg on the 6th for a meeting at Red River College and supper with G&L. Except for some details, that project is complete. We travelled to Regina on the 19th for a visit with Dad & Nina. Went spent one night there and one at Grant & Carol's. Nice supper with G&C at the Barley Mill. We made several trips to Virden where we have been contracted to help with the creation of a Local Heritage District in their downtown.  This project will add to our workload over the winter but is something new and interesting for us. Ken finally got a step and landing completed while the good weather was still with us.

October

Ken started his work for the Brandon Heritage Advisory Committee. It will keep him busy about half-time but has no set "office" hours and he works mainly from home - this  leaves him free to continue his other work with the Province and Rural Municipalities. We spent several days in Glenboro and all parts of the North & South Cypress Municipalities. It was a great chance to re-visit some of our favorite spots in the Spruce Woods / Treesbank region and some less-known places in the Edrans, Firdale, Broodale areas. Gwenda and Dennis visited - they took us to Remington's for our 40th Anniversary supper. Ken attended a Community Heritage Association conference in Sekirk on Oct. 23/24. We strayed at a B&B along the river just south of the town.  While Ken was hard at work Bev went to the Bomber game with Geoff and the kids took us to Pizza Place for Bev's birthday supper.

September

We went on a road trip to Eastern Manitoba and spent some time at Grand Beach, camping at Selkirk & Grand Beach. Had an unplanned meeting with Tim & Deb & a good day spent on the beach.  Supper with Geoff & Lyndsey on our way home. We visited with Linda and Ron at Pearl & Scott's and camped in their yard. They gave us a tour of the Mennonite farms in the Arden neighbourhood. Beautiful day for a picnic at Queen Elizabeth Park on Sept. 13th. (Nick's birthday) with them, Cynthia's , Linda, & Jonah.  We spent several days in Manitou and area doing a heritage inventory and started work on some rural areas in the North and South Cypress municipalities. We enjoyed visits with Tim & Deb on the 18th & 19th (think it was the hottest day of the year!).  On the 24th Ken's band played at the All-Charities Kickoff Event at the Convention Centre in Winnipeg, other acts included Little Hawk (former Blue Bomber Troy Westwood) and Sierra Noble. We had supper with Geoff and Lyndsey and spent the night at our favorite hotel on Pembina Hwy.,visited Carmen and Morden the next morning on our way to finish up some work near Manitou. On the way home that evening we stopped for a swim at Spruce Woods - beautiful warm day. The next day Jerry and Ken went to Riding Mountain Park and hiked the 17 km. Grey Owl Trail - beautiful fall day. We were back in Winnipeg on the 28th for a meeting at Red River College, saw the kids again. Ken also learned that he has another work contract - this time as Heritage Coordinator for the City of Brandon. It fits in nicely with the work we've been doing elsewhere.

August

What a busy month!

Ken's band played at  Ridgefest, a Garden Party, (Cancer Fundraiser) and at Clancy's. We tried to get settled into our new place but had to take time for an 8 day (Aug 19 - 26) road trip to Flin Flon and Swan River where we worked on Heritage Inventories for Special Places projects. Work, work, work. 10 hour days - but lots of interesting things to see - and interesting people to meet. Bev went on her own road trip to Regina with Linda and Pearl. (Aug 8-12) Wicked hail storm woke us at 4a.m. on the 14th. Ultimatley our 2000 Toyota Echo was written off & over $6,000 damage to our new mobile home. The 15th we had a family supper at Earl's & the guys went to the Wpg. Blue Bomber game. I think Lyndsey & I had more fun shopping!!! Aug 16th our niece, Natasha & her son, Dareus, visited us for lunch. Also, Mom Storie, Donna, & Jonah.

July

Jonah came to visit. We took him to Hecla where he stayed for a short while when he was just a little guy. Then we all went to the 11th Storie Family Reunion!
Grant & Carol visited us on July 13 & 14. Ken's band played Ridgefest and The Air Show in Brandon on the weekend of July 17-19.
Dennis & Gwenda visited on the 20th and 21st. We got in some beach time.
The Girls had a Weekend Party on July 25, 26,&27th - Check out the Photos!
We moved into our Brandon home on July 29.

June

Busy month! We found a place to live in Brandon. Purchased a new mobile home in a new area at 201 Glendale Bay. Ken travelled to Swan River - Flin Flon with Historic Resources staff for meetings with Municipal Officials and Local Heritage Committees. We spent several days working on a Heritage Inventory Project in Hartney. Ken signed on with a Brandon band, and has taken on some curriculum writing work for Red River College.

May

After a short break Ken is back to work with Heritage Inventories scheduled for Hartney, Swan River, Flin Flon and the Rural Municpality of North Cypress (Carberry area). We've made several trips to Brandon to look at houses.

April

Well we have been walking & running in spite of the cool, windy, spring weather and have captured a few birds on film, (pileated woodpecker & ducks), also have seen a few eagles, blue jays, geese of course, a brown rabbit, river otter , etc..

We are pleased to annouce two new family members, Sean Leslie Kelly born April 20th to Cynthia & Wayne & Simon August Shawver born April 14th  to Pam & Brian. Another reason for celebration on the14th was Jonah's 37th.  Jonah & I were in Regina.  Dad bought him breakfast at Zellers, I treated him to Tony Roma's for lunch and we enjoyed a pizza supper at Dad & Nina's with Carolyn, too.

Jonah & I travelled to Regina  Easter Sunday.  It was mostly a rainy, cool, breezy day.  I was away five days.  A note of interest, Holdiay Mtn. ski hill was open Good Fri. (9th) & Sat. the 10th. (a r
ecord!)

We picked Geoff up & then Jonah up at the bus on the 9th & spent the day with the guys. Lyndsey joined us after work for supper at Red Lobster to celebrate Geoff's 33rd.  Jonah returned with us to Gimli to enjoy food from the Beach Boy & Whitecaps & Mom's turkey supper (almost on time this time!)  After a lot of encouragement  he also walked on the frozen lake.

March

Donna & Dave allowed us to accompany them to their Time-Share at Panorama where Ken and Dave skied for 4 days and the girls catered to our every need. Away 10 days in all.

Our amazing family threw us quite a party on our 40th Anniversary. Thanks to all for that, and for the great gift.

For Mom's 85'th - we gathered at Dave & Donna's. On our way back we visited Linda and Ron's. We took a walk in the woods.

February

Tim and Debbie visited and we celebrated Louis Riel Day in the traditional fashion. We asked ourselves "What would Louis do?" ,  and rushed off in search of an obnoxious Orangeman from Ontario to shoot.  Failing that, we merely ate, drank and stayed up late in true Metis fashion, but without the fiddles.

Ken has been  trips to Carberry, Gladstone and Boissevain over the winter to deliver the first draft of the Heritage Inventories he has been preparing for those towns and to consult with local heritage committees and local government officials. In between he is working on some research and writing for the second part of the project.

January

On January 10the annual Christmas gathering of Bev's family was at Geoff & Lyndsey's new house.  Ken finished his teaching duties on the 22nd and was able to devoted his time to his Heritage Inventories and goofing off.

December (08)

Christmas was quiet this year. Jonah visited us for a few days, then on the 25th we took him back to Brandon where Geoff and Lyndsey joined us at the Royal Oak Inn. We had breakfast on Boxing Day with Grant, Carol and Mum before heading home.

Bev started a new job at the local Sears Store, which she is enjoying. Ken was a bit busier than expected, having taken on some extra work for Red River College, and having already started on a second contract with the Heritage Resources Dept.

Ken's 60th Birthday was celebrated in style. Geoff and Lyndsey came out and stayed over, then Jerry, Donna, Dave, Tim, Debbie and Mom made a surprise visit. My thanks to everyone. It was a special and memorable birthday weekend.

November

There is wildlife nearby!

Nice storm on Nov. 6 & 7. Nice that is if you don't have to go anywhere! Also, nice sunrises during the freeze-up this year.

October

Geoff and Lyndsey took possession of their house in mid-October and had time to do some serious rennovations.

The views of late fall sunrises from our balcony have been good this year.

Ken is teaching another round of the Para-Educator Certificate courses at Selkirk, starting October 6. That will keep him busy on-and-off until mid- January. The field work for the Heritage Inventory Project is done and he and Bev are working away at the paperwork in their spare time.

On Oct.1 we hiked along the beach at Camp Morton. We made a quick tour of the Interlake on October 2, with the goal being Steep Rock on Lake Manitoba. On October 5 we were able to get a few pictures of the Kiteboarders.

September

We did quite a bit of field work in September, trying to get it all done while the weather was good. On Saturday, September 13 we set out for Boissevain, staying overnight at Linda and Ron's.  On Sunday we stopped at Baldur and Belmont before viewing some historic locations south of Boissevain and beginning our survey in the town. By Tuesday at noon we had finished Boissevain and set out for Virden, spending the night with Gwenda and Dennis after getting a start on Virden. We then took a much needed!!! break and spent a few days with Donna and Dave at their time-share at Riding Mountain Park before heading home on Saturday.

On Wednesday of the next week we set out again to complete the work in Virden. That took until late Friday and we were just able to catch the Bomber game and some leftover pizza at Jerry's. On Saturday we had brunch with Mom and Jonah,  did a bit of work in the Carberry area, then headed to Winnipeg for the Sheryl Crow concert. We had supper with Geoff and Ryan.
