Blessing Ways
are traditional Navajo ceremonies used to mark the transition of a woman into motherhood. In the North American way of taking things from one culture and using them for our own needs, Blessing Ways have been expanded upon and used to mark transitions of many kinds. In Birth Renewal this is a special time that allows women to share the things they have learned about one another over the weekend. It is very difficult to hear the painful stories of women and see their inner strengths without acknowledging one's own growth and strength. It is my belief that because our sons and daughters are the mothers and fathers of tomorrow, they need to hear their birth stories. I also believe that they need to hear positive birth stories. This does not mean dressing up the facts to make it more fantasy than reality. It means recognising what our children need to hear from us about our experiences and starting with that as a basis to re-write their birth stories.
Who am I and what qualifies me to offer Birth Renewal?
I am a 38 year old mother with three children. Read my birth stories by following this link
I completed a bachelor of general studies degree in 1997 with a focus on women’s studies, sociology and psychology.
I worked as midwife in Manitoba for 5 years and in that time I attended over 100 births in 3 countries.
As a result of my second birth I recognized the need for healing to take place in a woman’s life after a birth experience did not meet her expectations. This led to the creation of Birth Renewal. I now offer workshops and individual counseling sessions.
I have also trained with Pam England and offer prenatal classes in the Birthing From Within style.
