Politics

“I am a firm believer in politics for the people.”

Housing

Healthcare

Education

Employment

Environment

Taxes

All are very important to my vision of Canada.

When I first dove into politics back in 1995 I had no idea what direction I was setting for myself. Little did I know that it would spark and focus my discontentment for our government and its’ decision making practices.

Running for mayor that first time was a lark. Though I soon realized that by running I could bring change to the system and make people aware and care about issues that concerned myself and other citizens. For the next few years I focused on how I could make a difference, a mark – something that would make life in Brandon better for its citizens. Some ideas were used and some where discarded but no mention of myself or Grant Hamilton was ever brought forth as the visionaries for these ideas. What a disappointment.

Now in Winnipeg – I see a vast array of problems and issues facing this city, some of which I have solutions for others – only ideas. The following are some of those solutions and ideas.

Winnipeg

Housing the Homeless

- Charge a development tax of .05-1% of total cost of development to any new or re-developments in Winnipeg. The monies obtained from this will be put into a trust for one year and returned to developer minus the interest. The collected interest from this will then be used to fund renovations and redevelopment of downtown Winnipeg. These refurbished buildings (along Main St.) Will be used to house, teach skills, assist its residence with addiction and abuse issues and help them find jobs. As well, I propose to promote new businesses in the store fronts of these newly renovated buildings, hopefully with the assistance of the federal/provincial government and local Aboriginal groups to help fund this venture. Not only will this help give jobs to those who want them it will help to revitalize the community.

Healthcare

-Find me a nurse or any healthcare worker. Then we’ll will to make changes

Education

- Set up a committee to over-see the current practices of taxing big business. Then write a report on how best to equalize the playing field between  working Canadians and big business when it comes to taxing. If businesses paid normal taxes like the rest of us. University and College could be free.

- It's called "transfer pricing," or improperly shifting income to lower-tax countries.

Employment

Environment

-The Prime Minster promised a new program to build environmentally friendly energy producing power plants. Solar energy, Wind power and Geothermal energy are the way to go here.

Taxes

            - Every year I am annoyed by how international corporations getting away with out paying taxes, especially ones located in Canada.
