Shelley-Lynne Hardinge
When She’s Good, She’s Bad and When She’s Bad She’s at Her Best!!!
Shelley-Lynne was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. As a very young child she remembers that all she wanted to do was sing. Her mom would sing to her, along with her siblings every night after story time and she thought it was the most beautiful sound on earth. She used to tell herself that if she could sing then she was sure could do anything!
By the time she was six she knew this was going to be her path. She went to a music driven elementary school in Sherwood Park, Alberta. There she sang, played many instruments, toured with her school choir and made records. It was the 70s and she credits her very gifted and talented music teachers, Mrs. Rita Walkeruk and Mrs. Georgina Thurgood for introducing her to Jazz, Blues, Celtic, Folk, Country, West Indian and Pop Music. At home she listened to her father’s records which included George Jones, Johnny Cash, Lynn Anderson, Tanya Tucker and Elvis Presley.
By 14 her piano teacher would sneak her in to his gigs so she could sing with his band. At 16 she fronted her first teenage rock band in Vegreville, Alberta called Lust! She says she didn't even know what the name meant when she started singing with them. She now wonders where her parents were and what they were thinking?. After grade twelve she went onto post secondary music studies, graduating in Vocal Performance. It was there she met her husband; a fellow musician and today still making music with her.
They moved to London, England and her lessons from Tommy Banks regarding the quick and dirty curb side methods of arranging music really came into importance! Her greatest musical moment was working with foreign musicians, not being able to communicate with them verbally, in English, but music was the understood language.
Shelley has sung it all: Gospel, Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, and even Italian Opera but always loved the Blues the most. Now it’s nothing but the Blues! From London, England to Mexico they call her Canada’s Hip Shakin’ Mama. Shelley Lynne is enjoying her reign as one of Manitoba’s Women in Blues and says that her ultimate joy as a Blues Singing Woman has been working with Gerry Perkin and the Majestics of Brandon, Manitoba.
The Majestics travel to Mazatlan, Mexico every winter and play at a club called, Canucks owned by Phil and Terri Nevile who are originally from Neepawa, MB. www.canucksinmaz.com is the website.
